Solar Roadways!

Not exactly 'new' news, but underreported, solar roadways are putting the extreme technological  vision of the future into action! People need to hear about the roadways that have the potential to change our energy bills, our economy, our environment, our taxes, our winters, our falling apart asphalt roads; this is an opportunity to advance our everyday life for us and our future generation. Solar roadways are going to replace asphalt paths, and highways with solar panels! Instead of wasting land we can use our every day roads for these solar panels. Not only are we saving nature from being exhausted we won't have to repave the roads. Considering that I could talk infinitely about these amazing creations, here's a video covering almost all benefits of solar roadways:

Interesting Fact

Did you know that a majority of your thrown away plastic ends up in the ocean? Currently 75% of ocean debris is plaatics. The sea animals are thinking that this is food and eating it. We can reduce this statistic by working together and recycling.

Environmentally concerned students

Six seventh grade students volunteer to help a neglected street in Wyoming. These students planted multiple trees along the side of the street in a borough in Wyoming. They volunteered their time to make the not so popular parts of their town a better place. These students are in an environmental club at their school and dedicated hours on this past Thursday to plant 10 honey locus trees. The students are very environmentally conscious and took the opportunity to better their local community and earth. I think every school should have this type of club and strive to better the environment.

Microbeads or Microenvironment-Killers?

Micro beads infiltrating lakes and oceans is a fast developing problem. You may assume that the lakes that the micro beads are insignificant, but these lakes include our drinking water reservoirs. Their is two problems resulting from this. The first is that water filtration systems cannot prevent micro beads from going through the watercourse; concluding to consumption of the beads by us. Just think your putting plastic beads into your body, disgusting. Not only are you consuming plastic beads but also chemicals. Micro beads are able to absorb chemicals; so you are introducing plastic and chemicals to your body from your own tap water. The second issue with micro beads is that they are terrible for your skin. When using micro beads you are scrubbing tiny pieces of plastic onto your new skin. By doing this you are scrubbing away layers of your new skin, and nothe letting your skin rejuvinate. The micro beads also make microscopic cuts in your skin making it vulnerable to bacteria. All of this can result in more acne anyway, reversing the objective of the acne wash anyway. Instead of a microbead containing product, try a moisturising facial scrub. For example sugar scrubs, charcoal scrub, foam exfoliators or a facial mask. You may not even know you are using micro bead products. Micro beads are mostly found in facial wases and whitening toothpastes. California, New York, Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota are all trying to ban the use of these harmful products for the better. Please try not to use these bad products for the bettering of yourself and your environment.

Food Waste Crisis

Food waste is a national growing problem. The agricultural and environmental protection agency is in full efforts to educate consumers and companies how help reduce food waste. The average American family wastes about $1,500 of food yearly. According to government data retailers waste 1/3 of the country's food supply. Not only is this a waste of food and money but this issue is harming our environment! As those hundred billions of pounds of food rot they are releasing methane gases which amplify global warming. 14% of American homes do not have enough food to properly feed themselves. Studies show that if we reduced our food waste by 15% it'd be enough to feed more than 25 million people! If we reduce our food waste then we will not only be saving money but we will be conserving our natural resorces and preserving our planet for our future generations. The Obama administration has taken a big part in the process of food waste reduction. They want to reduce wasted food by 50% by 2030. Here are some tips to decrease food waste:
1. Shop realistically, as in buy food that you know that your going to eat.
2. Don't over serve when cooking, and save leftovers.
3. Treat expiration dates as guides; just because it says the food is past it's due date, doesn't necessarily mean that it is.
4. Donate unused or unwanted food to food pantries.
5. Store food in the right places so that it doesn't go bad.
6. Try composting.
I hope my tips are helpful for some people. Please think before you waste!

Recognition to 9/11

Considering that today is day to remember those who have passed in the 9/11 terrorist attack on the world trade center, I figured I should elaborate about this traitorous day. So on 9/11 not only were the innocent souls that went down with the buildings affected, but also the people who live to this day were affected. You'd imagine the only people harmed by this tragic event were the people who were killed, but 400,000 New Yorkers breathed in one of the most toxic pollution clouds ever recorded after the towers were brought down. Between 250,000 and 400,000 people were exposed to the pollution. The U.S government's figures show that the cloud of debris had the highest level of deadly toxins recorded of that time. Levels of acid, sulfur, fine particles, heavy metals and other unhealthy substances were also found. Asbestos and other harmful toxins were also measured at a high rate, thought to be causing cancer and other long term diseases. All of New York was severely affected by this cataclysmic event. Rest in peace to all of those who have lost their lives on September 11th, 14 years ago. And have hope for those who've endured the effects of the attack.

Intro Blog Post

Hi everyone! In this blog I will strive to be the voice of the Environment. I want to broadcast how we as individuals are doing wrong by our Earth, and how we can do right by it. I hope the Environment matters to you as much as it does to me, this is our world guys, it is what we make it. Some people find peace in their homes, in a pool, with friends, etc., as for me I find peace in nature. The beauty and serenity of our Earth is phenomenal! I believe people see news and only see one side of things, what people seem to neglect is the fact that that new stadium that was just built, that that celebrity that just got a billion dollar mansion, or that that new casino a couple towns over, just killed a field, or a forest, or a even beautiful habitat. I think that's why I feel this blog topic is a necessity. People need to be educated on the effects daily developments have on the Environment.. I say 'the Environment' but what it is, is our Environment. As long as we live on this planet, it is our responsibility to take care of it. We don't just effect the Environment, the Environment effects us. I hope my blog sways people to live nature friendly lives. I will be posting my knowledge and share personal experiences/opinions, along with legitimate facts and photos. Take care of the Earth and she will take care of you.
